There are more birds in Sunset Park than you might expect.

If you’ve ever noticed something flying overhead and thought, what is that?, you’re not alone. From red-tailed hawks to monk parakeets, Canada geese to cormorants, the neighborhood is full of birdlife hiding in plain sight.

The Sunset Park Sun, a neighborhood bulletin created with residents at the Sunset Park Library, has been tracking these birds through its “Bird of the Month” series.

Now we’re taking that idea off the page.

Join us on May 23 at 10 AM for a birding walk starting at the MADE Campus at Bush Terminal. We’ll walk along the waterfront toward Bush Terminal Park and through the park’s wooded trail loop, spotting birds, asking questions, and sharing what we notice.

This isn’t a formal tour. Some people will know a lot, others won’t, and that’s the point.

Whether you’re curious, experienced, or just looking for a reason to spend time outside, come walk with us.

Space is limited. RSVP to join.
