Join the Rikers Public Memory Project (RPMP) and the project’s historian, Shana Russell, PhD, to learn how to teach Rikers Island as a part of NYC history. Shana is an educator who has written a timeline of the last four centuries of Riker’s history.
In this free workshop, designed for NYC educators, Shana will discuss how to talk about Rikers in your classrooms and incorporate this important part of the landscape of New York history and culture into the existing curriculum.
The curriculum is presented alongside RPMP’s Rikers Timeline Installation that spans the island’s history before and during its use as a jail complex.
Time: 11:00 am — 1:00 pm EST
