Since the time of Hesiod in Ancient Greece, writers have been fascinated by the natural world and today, in a moment of worsening climate change, we can return to a state of awe and render the world outside with new eyes. We will look at writers such as Emerson, Wordsworth, and Whitman alongside modern writers such as Mei-‐Mei Berssenbrugge, Joyelle McSweeney, Gary Snyder, Forrest Gander and Marcella Durand. We will also examine how green spaces convey different things to different people and we will end with some generative writing to help transform our consciousness into conscience.
