Workshop “Preserving Avocados to Enjoy All Year”

Published: June 20, 2026; Aithor: Julia Sonrisa

When: June 23, 2026

Discover safe ways to select, store, freeze, and preserve avocados while they’re at peak quality.

June is California Avocado Month! It’s the perfect time to learn how to make the most of avocados while at peak harvest and quality. In this one-hour class, UC Master Food Preservers will share practical, research-based methods for selecting, storing, freezing, and preserving avocados for later use.

Participants will explore ways to maintain avocado quality and flavor beyond the fresh season, including guidance on ripeness, refrigeration, freezing avocado pulp, and additional preservation options. The class will also cover common storage mistakes and food safety considerations related to handling and preserving avocados at home.

Guest speaker Greg Alder, Vice President of the California Avocado Society and a volunteer with the UC Master Gardener Program of San Diego, will share insights on avocado varieties, seasonality, and selecting quality fruit.
