High Desert Retreat tells the story of one of the most celebrated new houses in California’s Coachella Valley. Designed by Aidlin Darling Design, a San Francisco-based architecture and design firm, the house builds on the legacy of modernism in the Palm Springs area, and it proposes a 21st-century interpretation of the mid-20th-century design so closely associated with that desert region.
Featuring commentary from the architects, original drawings, and photography by Adam Rouse, the book walks the reader through Aidlin Darling’s design process, from conception to realization. The book, published by IMAGES, reveals the firm’s attention to designing for all the senses, one of the hallmarks of the firm’s approach.
The house, High Desert Retreat, was featured in Architectural Record, Interior Design, and Residential Design Magazine, and it won awards from the American Institute of Architects, AIA California, AIA San Francisco, the Society of American Registered Architects, the International Design Awards, the Architecture MasterPrize, and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture & Design.
