Extra-Ordinary traces six houses in chronological order, identifying the critical inputs and outputs that drive each project. Central to the discussion is the role of client ritual, which shapes the firm’s core design approach for the work.

Coughlin Scheel will present a lecture on their recent domestic work on Fire Island — projects shaped by both opportunity and constraint, and deeply informed by ritual. The event will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at New York City College of Technology, Voorhees Hall, 2nd Floor. Paul and Annie will be joined in conversation by Claudia Hernandez and Eugene Seungho Park (City Tech) to explore themes ranging from views and privacy to ritual and nostalgia. The lecture will also highlight the inventive construction means and methods contractors employ to build on this car-free, environmentally exposed island.
