Inspired by anthropologist and poet Renato Rosaldo’s proposition that human action and articulations, including the creative expression of doing or making, are also deeply related to the cultural force of emotion, this presentation unfolds its own focus (on the cultural force of research and practice-research as a cultural force) through a reflective narrative on places, projects and pedagogy, across the personal and professional practice of a professor. This is presented as a connectedness of place-based, temporal, and spatial stories, hyper-local relationships in the global archipelago, our island ocean; the professor is a transdisciplinary educator, researche,r and writer (of sorts), with several decades experience across a range of disciplines and sectors, including the creative arts, design, social science, arts development and community practice.

The Stephan Weiss Lecture Series is made possible by an endowment established by the Karan-Weiss Foundation, Donna Karan, Gabrielle Karan, Corey Weiss, and Lisa Weiss.

Presented by the School of Design Strategies at Parsons School of Design.
