Windows frames what we see. When we gaze through a window, we gain a view of a portion of the world.

Yet, depending on our position relative to the window, the constancy of what we see varies. Looking out from inside towards the sky, a window frames for us a generally stable, constant, and unfluctuating view of the world. There is a constancy; a calmness; a stability in the larger picture. On the other hand, when we peer into a window, we catch glimpses of life in action, ever-changing and complex. It is messy, moving, and sometimes mundane.

In this lecture, we weigh the value and roles of larger, stabler worldviews against more granular, shifting, and varied worldviews, particularly in the field of design. What is to be gained from macro and micro perspectives in design work? How do we design for constancy and change? Who benefits? Who or what frames these perspectives? What is the window or threshold in question?!
