Join us for an engaging, digital winter lecture series at The Barrett Centre.

The Barrett Centre Winter Lecture Series is a three-part educational series. This three-part digital series will highlight how municipalities and industry partners can work together to strengthen local urban agriculture initiatives. Exploring project development and financing, urban agri-business operations, local food security, economic opportunities, and the benefits of urban farms that extend well beyond food production.

The second session will run on Thursday, February 26th, hosted on MS Teams. The session will have one 20-30 minute presentation by our session anchor, Jennifer Bedford from Durham College, followed by a moderated panel discussion with Domenique Mastronardi from Beck’s Broth, Andrew Staniforth from RBC, and Carrie Hage from Rideau Hall Foundation. After the panel discussion, there will be an opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session with the anchor and panel members.

The theme for Session #2 is: Growing with Confidence: Financial Strategies for Scaling Urban Food Initiatives

Anchor: Jennifer Bedford from Durham College.

Jennifer’s Bio:

K. Jennifer Bedford is a full-time professor and program coordinator of the Film and Motion Design program at Durham College. She holds an Honours B.A. in Communications, Multimedia, and Fine Art, as well as an M.A. in Communications and New Media from McMaster University.

Before joining Durham College, Jennifer worked with prominent visual arts organizations, contributing to communication strategies and digital and print campaigns. Her creative work has been exhibited across North America, Europe, and Africa, and published internationally.

Jennifer is passionate about international education and has led three faculty-led classroom abroad (FLCA) trips to rural Guatemala since 2021. She serves as the lead faculty advisor for Enactus Durham College, where she mentors students in social innovation and entrepreneurship. In May 2024, she was named a John Dobson Fellow at the Enactus National Exposition, recognizing her leadership and contributions to student success. In addition to teaching, Jennifer actively engages in applied research initiatives at the college, fostering social impact between academia and the community.
