Join Professor Schiffman for a lecture on “Reconstructing and Editing a Dead Sea Scrolls Text: New Jerusalem and Utopian Temple Plans.”

Lawrence H. Schiffman is Global Distinguished Professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New York University. He is a specialist in the Dead Sea Scrolls, Judaism in late antiquity, the history of Jewish law, and Talmudic literature. His many publications include From Text to Tradition: A History of Second Temple and Rabbinic Judaism; Reclaiming the Dead Sea Scrolls; Qumran and Jerusalem: Studies in the Dead Sea Scrolls and the History of Judaism; The Temple Scroll (with A.D. Gross); and more than 200 articles on the Dead Sea Scrolls and Rabbinic Judaism. He coedited the Encyclopedia of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the award-winning Outside the Bible: Ancient Jewish Writings Related to Scripture, and the five-volume series, An End to Antisemitism. His most recent book is Sources and Interpretations: Studies in Ancient Jewish History, Literature, and Religion.
