Ridley Scott’s iconic road film, Thelma & Louise, follows two best friends from Arkansas who embark on a weekend fishing trip to escape their stifling daily lives. Thelma Dickinson (Geena Davis), a submissive housewife, and Louise Sawyer (Susan Sarandon), a sharp-witted waitress, intend to have a simple adventure. Their journey takes a drastic turn when they stop at a roadside bar. There, Thelma is nearly raped in the parking lot, and Louise intervenes, killing the assailant.
Suddenly fugitives from the law, the women decide to flee to Mexico instead of facing a judicial system Louise distrusts. Their flight becomes a transformative odyssey as they evade the persistent pursuit of a sympathetic but duty-bound detective, Hal Slocumb (Harvey Keitel). Along the way, Thelma sheds her naivete and discovers a newfound strength, while Louise is forced to confront a traumatic event from her past. Their rebellion against the constraints and injustices they face escalates, culminating in a legendary and unforgettable final stand that solidifies their status as folk heroes.
