“Aloners” (2021), directed by Hong Sung-eun, is a quiet, introspective South Korean drama that follows Jina (Gong Seung-yeon), a young woman who works at a credit card company call center and lives in self-imposed isolation. Preferring minimal human interaction, she navigates her days with earbuds constantly in, shutting out the world—until the sudden death of her reclusive neighbor forces her to confront her loneliness and the emotional walls she has built. As Jina reluctantly interacts with those around her, including a persistent coworker and her estranged father, the film delicately explores themes of grief, detachment, and the fragile connections that slowly draw her back into the world.
