Directed by Étienne Périer, “Bridge to the Sun” is a romantic war drama based on the true story of Gwen Terasaki’s memoir. The film follows Gwen (Carroll Baker), an American woman who marries a Japanese diplomat, Hidenari “Terry” Terasaki (James Shigeta), in the 1930s. As World War II erupts, their interracial love faces immense strain due to rising tensions between the U.S. and Japan. When Terry is recalled to Japan, Gwen chooses to accompany him with their young daughter, enduring hardship and suspicion in a country now at war with her homeland. The story explores their struggle to maintain love and loyalty amidst national conflict, cultural divides, and wartime persecution.
