Directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on the Old English epic poem, “Beowulf” (2007) is a motion-capture animated fantasy film starring Ray Winstone as the legendary warrior Beowulf. The story follows his heroic exploits when he arrives in the kingdom of King Hrothgar (Anthony Hopkins), whose mead hall is terrorized by the monstrous Grendel (Crispin Glover). After slaying Grendel, Beowulf must confront Grendel’s vengeful mother (Angelina Jolie), a seductive and supernatural demon who offers him power in exchange for a dark bargain. As Beowulf’s past choices haunt him, he faces his greatest challenge — a fiery dragon threatening his kingdom, forcing him to reckon with his legacy of pride, ambition, and mortality.
