Directed by Otto Preminger and starring Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney, Where the Sidewalk Ends is a gritty film noir about Mark Dixon (Andrews), a tough, violence-prone detective with a tarnished past. When Dixon accidentally kills a murder suspect during an interrogation, he panics and covers up the crime, only to find himself entangled in a deeper conspiracy. As he investigates, he becomes involved with the dead man’s estranged wife, Morgan (Tierney), and her father, a cab driver wrongly accused of the murder. Torn between his duty and his guilt, Dixon races to uncover the truth before his misconduct is exposed, leading to a tense and morally complex climax.
