Green Book (2018), directed by Peter Farrelly, is a biographical comedy-drama based on the true story of an unlikely friendship between an Italian-American bouncer, Tony “Lip” Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen), and a refined African-American pianist, Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali). Set in 1962, the film follows Tony, a tough-talking Bronx native hired as Shirley’s driver and bodyguard for a concert tour through the racially segregated Deep South.

As they travel together, the two men confront racism, class differences, and prejudices, forming a deep bond. While Shirley faces discrimination despite his talent and education, Tony learns to see beyond his biases, leading to mutual respect and a transformative friendship. Heartwarming, humorous, and poignant, Green Book explores themes of racism, dignity, and the power of human connection.
