Directed by Wes Anderson, “Asteroid City” is a whimsical, meta-fictional comedy-drama set in a fictional 1950s desert town during a junior stargazer convention. When an unexpected extraterrestrial event disrupts the gathering, the eclectic group of students, parents, scientists, and military officials find themselves quarantined, leading to absurd, poignant, and surreal interactions.

Framed as a televised play within a film, the story blends Anderson’s signature symmetrical visuals, deadpan humor, and melancholic themes of grief, love, and existential curiosity. With an ensemble cast including Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, and Tilda Swinton, “Asteroid City” explores the search for meaning in an uncertain universe while playfully deconstructing storytelling itself.
