“Trees Lounge” (1996) is a dramedy written, directed by, and starring Steve Buscemi. The film follows Tommy Basilio (Buscemi), a down-on-his-luck mechanic and alcoholic in a small Long Island town. After losing his job and his girlfriend, Theresa (Elizabeth Bracco), to his former boss, Tommy spends his days drowning his sorrows at the local bar, Trees Lounge, and aimlessly drifting through life.

As Tommy struggles to get back on his feet, he reconnects with old acquaintances, including his estranged niece, Debbie (Chloë Sevigny), and attempts to rebuild relationships with his family and friends. However, his self-destructive tendencies and poor decisions continually hinder his progress. The film paints a poignant, darkly humorous portrait of small-town life, loneliness, and the challenges of personal redemption, capturing the complexities of human flaws and the search for meaning.
