“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” (1989) is a beloved and hilarious Christmas comedy that follows the Griswold family as they attempt to have the perfect, old-fashioned family Christmas, with disastrous and comical results.
Clark Griswold, a well-meaning but hopelessly inept family man, is determined to make this Christmas the most memorable one yet. He’s envisioned a traditional, picture-perfect holiday with the entire extended family gathered at his suburban home in Chicago. His plans, however, are immediately met with challenges and escalating chaos.
The movie kicks off with the arrival of Clark’s parents and in-laws, along with his eccentric and freeloading cousin Eddie and his family, including his perpetually bewildered wife, Catherine, and their children. The cramped quarters and contrasting personalities of the extended family quickly lead to friction and comedic situations.
