“The Holdovers” is a 2023 comedy-drama film set in 1970 at a prestigious New England boarding school. It follows the story of a curmudgeonly and disliked teacher, Paul Hunham, who is forced to remain on campus during the Christmas holidays to supervise a group of students who cannot go home.

Among the “holdovers” is a troubled and rebellious student named Angus, with whom Paul forms an unlikely bond. They are joined by Mary, the school’s head cook, who is grieving a recent loss.

As these three very different individuals spend the holidays together, they form an unexpected connection, learning from one another and finding solace in their shared experiences. Paul, initially resistant to the situation, begins to see his students and Mary in a new light, and he begins to confront his loneliness and regrets.

“The Holdovers” explores themes of loneliness, connection, and the power of human relationships. It’s a heartwarming and humorous film about finding common ground in unexpected places and discovering the true meaning of the holiday season.
