Turning Red follows Mei Lee, a confident and outgoing 13-year-old girl who lives in Toronto with her overprotective mother, Ming. Mei is navigating the awkwardness and excitement of adolescence, juggling school, friends, and her first crush while trying to maintain her family’s traditions.

However, Mei’s life takes a wild turn when she discovers a secret family curse: whenever she experiences strong emotions, she transforms into a giant red panda. As she struggles to control her transformations, she navigates the complexities of family relationships, cultural expectations, and the thrilling yet terrifying journey of self-discovery.

Through her adventures with her best friends, Mei learns to embrace her unique identity, the power of her voice, and the importance of understanding and accepting her family’s heritage. Turning Red is a coming-of-age story infused with humor, heart, and a touch of magical realism, celebrating the messy and wonderful experience of growing up.
