“The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” (2023) is set in the world of The Hunger Games and delves into the backstory of Coriolanus Snow, long before he becomes the infamous President of Panem. The movie follows young Snow, portrayed by Tom Blyth, as he grapples with his family’s fallen status in a post-war Capitol. Seizing an opportunity to restore his family’s fortune, Snow participates in a mentor program for the 10th Hunger Games. His hopes are dashed when he’s assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, a girl from the impoverished District 12, played by Rachel Ziegler.

The film explores Snow’s complex relationship with Lucy Gray, as he mentors her through the brutal competition. Their alliance turns the odds in their favor, and Snow battles his instincts for both good and evil. As they navigate the treacherous political landscape and the savage games, Snow’s character is tested, revealing whether he will emerge as a songbird or a snake. The movie is a tale of ambition, power, and survival, setting the stage for the events that will eventually lead Snow to power.
