Belle du Jour is a classic French film directed by Luis Buñuel and starring Catherine Deneuve as Séverine, a bored and repressed housewife who secretly works as a prostitute in the afternoons. The film explores themes of desire, fantasy, and morality, as Séverine indulges in various erotic scenarios with her clients while hiding her double life from her husband. The film is based on a novel by Joseph Kessel and features a mix of realism and surrealism, typical of Buñuel’s style. Belle du Jour won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1967 and is considered one of Buñuel’s and Deneuve’s best works.
