Mahogany (1975) is a romantic drama film starring Diana Ross as Tracy Chambers, a young woman from Chicago who pursues her dream of becoming a fashion designer in Rome. The film was directed by Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Productions, and features the hit song “Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)” by Ross. The film explores the themes of ambition, love, and identity, as Tracy faces a choice between her career and her relationship with Brian Walker, a local activist played by Billy Dee Williams. The film also stars Anthony Perkins as Sean, a possessive and jealous photographer who becomes Tracy’s mentor and lover. Mahogany was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song and has become a cult classic among fans of Ross and Motown.
