Exhibition of Sandra Cattaneo “Adorno Aguas de Ouro”

Published: November 9, 2022; Aithor: Julia Sonrisa

When: November 15, 2022
Where: Consulate General of Brazil in New York

Address: 225 East 41st Street, New York, NY 10017, United States

Portuguese for “waters of gold,” Águas de Ouro is a love letter to the beauty, glamour, and glory of Brazil in its most essential state: the people at one with the landscape. Finely attuned to the nuances of light, color, movement, and body language, Cattaneo Adorno uses photography to fuse the present and the past, capturing the bittersweet yearning that Brazilians call Saudade — intense feelings of nostalgia and melancholy for a love long gone. Her timeless images of Cariocas (natives of Rio) living their best lives on the glistening shores capture the joie de vivre that they maintain despite the hardships they endure.

A selection of photographs from “Águas de Ouro” (Radius Books, 2020) will be on view at the Consulate General of Brazil from Nov 15 to Jan 17. Please join us for the exhibition opening.

Sandra Cattaneo Adorno took up photography in 2013 at the age of 60 and has since gained extensive recognition for her work. She is the author of “The Other Half of the Sky ” (2019), “Águas de Ouro” and “Scarti di Tempo” (Radius Books, 2020, and 2022).
