For nine consecutive years, Finland has been ranked the happiest country in the world. Beneath the country’s political stability and social structures, could there be something deeper shaping Nordic wellbeing — a relationship to nature that preserves a more intimate connection to our humanity?
Presented by Isabel Sullivan Gallery, Nature of Nordic Woman—created by photographer Meeri Koutaniemi, psychologist Iida Mäkikallio, and performance artist Ida-Maria Martela—combines black-and-white photography, live performance, and discussion to explore the psychological cost of emotional suppression amongst women in modern culture. It further explores the process of reclaiming healthy anger, vulnerability, desire, and eros as pathways back to vitality and creative power.
Meeri Koutaniemi is an internationally recognized photographer whose work explores human rights, identity, and the complexities of cultural and emotional experience.
Iida Mäkikallio is a psychologist whose work focuses on embodiment, emotional integration, relational healing, and the intersection of psychology and culture.
Ida-Maria Martela is a performance artist whose practice investigates vulnerability, agency, and the body as a site of collective and personal transformation.
