Atiba Kwabena Wilson is the founder and artistic director of Songhai Djeli. He is a recorded musician, published poet, and storyteller featured at the “In The Tradition...” Festival of the National Association of Black Storytellers.
Founded in 1985, Songhai Djeli’s repertoire is based on studying traditional African arts and the ongoing influences upon African culture in the Western hemisphere. The ensemble has been featured at the African Arts Festival in Brooklyn, New York, and the FESTAM International Music Festival in Dakar, Senegal. Members of Songhai Djeli have performed and lectured throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and Africa.
