The set will be all original compositions from their album “Pomegranate” and upcoming album “Adonis”.
Active for over a decade in New York City and Boston, Brooklyn guitar and cello duo Quarterly have become known for their performances of classical and folk-influenced pieces for guitar and cello. DiPietro’s guitar usually provides a harmonic and rhythmic backbone, and Drymala’s cello serves as the melodic voice. On their adventurous third album Adonis, however, the two often take more equal roles —"dancing together," as they put it—to create engaging and unusual moods. These pieces conjure disparate scenes, set on and by the sea (“Fowler’s Theme”), in a mythological past (“Italian Folk Magic”), or in the intimacy of the home (“Adonis”). Adonis mixes the harmonic and melodic strength of their previous work with a newfound interest in texture and found sounds. At once immediate and challenging, it is an emotionally engaging tour de force that summarizes Drymala and DiPietro’s singular voices as players and composers.
