Officially formed in 2025, in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, The Right Stuff (@the_right_stuff_band on Instagram) was conceptualized by budding band leader, intuitive New York City guitarist and music educator, Seon Gomez. The promising trio is rounded out by two fantastic musicians, Jay Sawyer (Drums) and Sam Weber (Bass). Both have deep ties to instrumental improvisational music in New York and internationally. The band of three longtime friends and regular collaborators comes together to play Seon’s tasteful guitar-led arrangements of Black American Roots Music, and songs inspired by Black American Roots music. Taking notes from musicians including Mickey Baker, Luca Benedetti, Adam Levy, Bill Frisell, and Doc French, among others, The Right Stuff’s approach revolves around melodic, thoughtful restraint over technical display.
A breath of fresh air, The Right Stuff seeks to be a thoughtful addition to the New York music scene and beyond.
